COMMUNITY SERVICE REQUIREMENT
We believe that one of the components of being a strong leader is to serve in the community. As a required component of middle school, 6 hours of confirmed community service is expected each quarter of the school year. A variety of experiences are encouraged; however, the plan and execution are the sole responsibility of the student. Parental involvement is expected.
CLUBS
Students will participate in weekly elective clubs which will broaden their experience in areas that we cannot normally incorporate into the regular school day. The club choices will change every 6 – 8 weeks. The following are a list of clubs that have been offered:
School Newspaper, Yearbook, Novel Studies, Sports, World Cultures, Jazzercise and Forensics.
We try to incorporate clubs that are of current student interest therefore, club themes are not always the same and are subject to change.
MONTHLY SOCIALS
We recognize the importance of developing the social lives of our students in a productive manner. Middle school students have an increased desire to be with their peers and are beginning to establish an identity of their own. For this reason we have instituted monthly social opportunities for the students so that they can learn the give and take of friendship and begin to explore outside interests. Our past socials have included ice skating, rock climbing, roller skating and bowling.
YEAR END CLASS TRIPS
Middle School students raise funds for their year-end class trip by selling hot dogs, Apple Blossom parade seats and conducting raffles. Past trips have included Williamsburg, Virginia, New York City, New York, and Rodanthe, North Carolina.
